Kindergarten
During kindergarten, students are welcomed into the Curtis Wilson Primary School and Academy family. They begin to wear the Curtis Wilson Primary School and Academy uniform with the pride of belonging to this exceptional school environment. Students at the kindergarten level practice and begin to master social and self-help skills. They are introduced to geography, health, history, literature, math, reading (strong emphasis on phonics), non-denominational religious education, science, spelling, and writing concepts. Kindergarten students also enjoy art, computers, etiquette, library, music, physical education, and Spanish. The biggest thrill for Curtis Wilson Primary School and Academy kindergarten students is learning to read!
Primary Grades (1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades)
The instructional environment of the primary grades facilitates student development and mastery of basic skills in the content areas of geography, health, history, literature, math, reading (strong emphasis on phonics), non-denominational religious education, science, spelling, and writing. The students also benefit from enrichment opportunities in art, computers, etiquette, library, music, physical education, and Spanish. At this level, the children are becoming more confident in the use of simple concepts, rules, and facts while integrating new information. Great attention is given to teach and practice study skills in the primary grades as students begin to work more independently and complete more complicated assignments.
Intermediate Grades (4th, 5th, and 6th grades)
The intermediate grades provide the bridge in learning between the focus on the concrete and basic facts of the primary years and the reason-based content of the higher grades. At this level, students are expected to apply information and processes to master more difficult academic content. During the intermediate years, the staff of Curtis Wilson Primary School and Academy holds each student accountable for efficient study skills and impeccable work ethic. Students in our intermediate grades enjoy traveling to NASA during a space unit and visiting EPCOT and participating in an International Fair on alternating years!
Summer Camp
Curtis Wilson Primary School and Academy hosts a nine week summer camp each year. The camp is based on weekly themes and areas of interest. Each camp week is filled with projects, experiments, crafts, guest speakers, movies, games, academic skill maintenance, and other engaging activities. Children enjoy a variety of fieldtrips to interesting and enriching venues in the Indianapolis area (some reflecting the theme and some just because they are awesome places to visit). Finally, Curtis Wilson Primary School and Academy Summer Camp children participate in the public library reading program.
